Science

At St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Pinjarra, we are proud to offer a vibrant and engaging science program supported by our brand-new, purpose-built STREAM classroom, opened in 2024.
This dedicated space is fully equipped for hands-on experiments and scientific investigations, providing students with an inspiring environment to explore the wonders of science.

From Kindergarten to Year 6, science lessons are delivered by a specialist science teacher, ensuring high-quality instruction and continuity across year levels.

Our science program is designed to help students:

  • Build a strong foundation of knowledge across chemical, physical, biological, Earth and space sciences
  • Develop a genuine curiosity about the world and a passion for asking questions and exploring possibilities
  • Understand and apply a variety of scientific inquiry methods, including planning and conducting experiments, collecting and analysing data, evaluating results, and drawing evidence-based conclusions
  • Learn to communicate scientific ideas clearly and confidently, justifying their thinking with evidence
  • Appreciate the historical and cultural contributions to science and explore the diverse range of science-related careers

The curriculum is aligned with the Western Australian Curriculum, which is structured around three interrelated strands:

    1. Science Understanding
    2. Science as a Human Endeavour
    3. Science Inquiry Skills

These strands work together to help students develop a scientific view of the world. Through inquiry-based learning, students are encouraged to explore scientific concepts, understand their relevance, and apply their knowledge in meaningful ways.
